Per the NEA Education Policy and Practice Department Extended Learning Opportunities assist children in academics and with social development by offering high quality educational programming beyond the traditional school day. These programs combine academic enrichment, cultural activities, and recreational opportunities to engage participants and guide their learning. Black Child Development Institute of Greensboro (BCDI-G) offers two Extended Learning Opportunities through our agency, all of which are FREE programs for participating families.

BCDI-G’s Bridge Afterschool program  operates 2:30-6:00pm daily during the academic school year.   Thanks to funding support from The Department of Public Instruction (DPI), this program is FREE to all students from select Guilford County Schools.  The programs helps participating K-5th graders increase their reading comprehension and math skills, receive homework assistance, STEM  and other enrichment opportunities such as nutrition, dance and art.

E3 is a FREE 6-week literacy-based summer enrichment program that focuses on helping children fall in love with reading, increase their self-esteem, and generate more positive attitudes toward making a difference in the community.  The overall goal of this nationally certified program is to combat Summer Reading Slide! Eligible participants are K-5th grade students enrolled in Guilford County Schools. Scholars engage in high quality academic activities throughout each day, receive 2 nutritious meals and a snack daily, and participate in fun enrichment actives each afternoon.  The program runs from June through July.
